On November 30, 2022, Food Export–Midwest & Northeast carried out a Feed Ingredients Educational Seminar in Santo Domingo, designed to increase awareness and promote the use of high-quality U.S. feed ingredients among key players in the Dominican market. The seminar brought together feed manufacturers, animal producers, and distributors seeking to improve nutritional value, productivity, and efficiency in their operations.
The event’s keynote speaker, Dr. Catherine Bandyk, delivered an in-depth presentation on the benefits of U.S. feed ingredients, including their nutritional advantages, cost-effectiveness, and superior performance compared to alternatives from other origins. Her session, titled Adding Value With Additives, covered industry trends, challenges, and new opportunities, as well as best practices for selecting the right additives to maximize animal health and productivity. Participants praised her expertise and the practical applicability of her insights.
Eric Baylor, Agricultural Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo, opened the seminar by highlighting the strong bilateral trade relationship between the United States and the Dominican Republic. He emphasized the importance of feed ingredients as a key export category and underlined the potential for further trade expansion.
Additionally, Theresa Miller presented Food Export’s portfolio of programs, including the Branded Program, showcasing how U.S. suppliers can leverage these tools to expand internationally. Her presentation helped connect local industry needs with the support available to U.S. companies through Food Export.
The seminar successfully reinforced the positioning of U.S. feed ingredients as a reliable, high-quality option for the Dominican and Caribbean markets. Based on the positive feedback and growing industry interest, expanding these initiatives—particularly by hosting a follow-up seminar in Santiago, the country’s feed manufacturing hub—presents a strong opportunity to deepen commercial engagement and broaden U.S. export prospects.
